Distributed Generation Interconnection

Are you interested in a distributed generation (DG) project in excess of 50 kilowatts (kW)?

Please access our resources below for more interconnection information and complete an online request for documents needed to apply for a DG Interconnection Agreement with your local electric cooperative and Hoosier Energy.

DG Interconnection Process FAQs

Distributed generation (DG) projects refer to a variety of technologies that generate electricity and may include commercial and industrial application such as:

  • Solar photovoltaic panels
  • Combined heat and power systems
  • Wind
  • Hydropower
  • Biomass combustion or cofiring
  • Municipal solid waste incineration
  • Fuel cells fired by natural gas or biomass
  • Reciprocating combustion engines, including back-up generators

Available to consumer-owned power production resources greater than 50 kW, but not to exceed 20,000 kW. The resource must be located adjacent to an electric line (distribution line voltages (i.e., no transmission projects)) of an REMC, which is supplied by Hoosier Energy, and is adequate for the service provided by such resource.

  • Interconnection Customer: A Hoosier Energy Member Cooperative’s Member-Consumer.
  • Member Cooperative: One of Hoosier Energy’s 18 distribution Member Cooperatives.
  • Hoosier Energy: Wholesale power provider for the Member Cooperatives and process owner of the DG Interconnection Agreement process.
  • SGIP: Contains the procedures and the pre-application and Interconnection Request Form for a project >50 kW.
  • Pre-Application: Example of data sent back in pre-application.
  • Interconnection Request Form: Required form to determine eligibility for DG Interconnection approval or withdrawal, and if feasibility or other studies are required.
  • SGIA: Small Generator Interconnection Agreement is a signed, three-party agreement between the Interconnection Customer, the Member Cooperative, and Hoosier Energy. The Interconnection Agreement is signed when a project is approved for interconnection
  • DG Purchase Agreement – Contract for Hoosier Energy to purchase excess energy (note: not every project may decide to sell back excess electricity).

DG Project Interconnection Inquiry for Interconnection Location and Project Size Unknown: If an Interconnection Customer (Member-Consumer) inquires about a distributed generation project where the interconnection location and the project size are unknown, then the pre-application in the SGIP will be needed.

DG Project Interconnection Inquiry for Interconnection Location and Project Size Known: If an Interconnection Customer (Member-Consumer) inquires about a distributed generation project where the interconnection location and project size is known, the pre-application in the SGIP will not be needed, and may begin the process with the interconnection request.

*If you need assistance in identifying which form you need to complete, please contact your local electric cooperative.
